Adding a deliberate texture to a wall is an inexpensive way to hide any imperfections that would take more time and money to fix.
Materials needed:
- All-purpose joint compound
- 5 gallon bucket
- Drywall knife
- Water
- Drop cloths
Directions:
- Be sure to cover the floor surfaces with drop cloths before you start.
- Mix the joint compound with water in the bucket according to the package directions.
- Use the drywall knife to pick up a blob of compound and apply to the wall.
- Using the knife, spread the compound out to a thin layer.
- Scrape the knife in random directions, cutting in some areas and allowing the compound to build up in others.
- It is important to work in thin layers, otherwise the compound will crack while drying.
- If you need to, you can wait 24 hours for the compound to dry before building up another coat.
- Once your design is done, allow the compound to dry for 48 hours before priming and painting.
